USA: Florida, Key West - Casa Marina Resort
TravelPage.com Rating:
The turn of the century brought Key West into its heyday. Henry Flagler completed his ambitious "Overseas Railway" in 1912. Tracks were laid from the tip of the mainland to Old Town Key West with a remarkable total over water span of 28 miles. To ensure that travelers enjoyed quality accommodations he erected the Casa Marina.
Originally built in 1921 as the end-point of the Florida East Coast Railroad line, this hotel is loaded with charm and an old-world elegance. Located on 13 acres, the original hotel is flanked by two newer wings. The hotel is separated from one of the few beaches in Key West by a courtyard and two swimming pools. The lobby of the hotel is surrounded by dark woods, beamed ceilings and cooling fans. If you are interested in history and less concerned with modern amenities, request a room in the original building. If you want modern bathrooms and consistent air conditioning, request a room in one of the newer wings.
There are 382 rooms including 71 suites. Non-smoking rooms are available. There are two swimming pools (one large enough to swim laps, although the water off the beach is ideal for swimming as well). There are two restaurants, Flaglers is the more formal and the Sun Sun Pavilion on the beach is quite informal. There is also a fitness center and water sports are available on the beach.
Room prices range from around $180-$425 per night in the off-season (mid-April through mid-December) to well over $275-$710 during peak season (Christmas through mid-April). These are the list prices and
specials are almost always available - Book Online with TravelPage.com.
